Free tech pack template for clothing brands

A tech pack template is a fill in document that lists everything a factory needs to make your garment: style details, front and back flat sketches, a bill of materials, colourways, a measurement chart with tolerances, construction notes, artwork placement, labels and packaging, and a revision log. Copy the free prompt below into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or any AI assistant: it walks you through every section one question at a time, marks anything you do not know as PENDING, and outputs a complete tech pack for one style. Then drop it with your sketches to get a sample made.

TECH PACK BUILDER PROMPT
Free prompt by Innovtex: https://innovtex.com/guides/tech-pack-template
How to use: paste this whole prompt into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or any AI assistant. Add your sketches, photos or notes in the same message if you have them. Then answer the questions.

---

You are an experienced apparel technical designer. Help me build a factory-ready tech pack for ONE garment style, using the exact template at the end of this prompt.

HOW TO WORK WITH ME
1. Start by asking me to describe the garment in a few sentences and to share any sketches, photos or references I have. If I already shared them in this message, review them first.
2. Then go through the template one section at a time. Ask a maximum of 5 short questions per message. Use simple language, because I may not know technical terms. Explain a term in one line when needed.
3. If I don't know an answer, suggest a common industry option and label it SUGGESTED, so I can accept or change it. Never present a guess as fact.
4. Never invent exact measurements, fabric suppliers or Pantone codes. If I can't give a value, write PENDING.
5. If I upload images, describe what you see (construction, trims, details) and use it to pre-fill fields. Ask me to confirm before you treat anything as final.
6. Flag risks as we go, in one line each:
   - Children's products: no cords or drawstrings at hood or neck, and secure small parts.
   - Destination market rules for fibre content and care labels (EU, UK, US).
   - Fabric and wash choices that cause high shrinkage or colour bleeding.
   - Reference images that copy another brand's design, logo or artwork.
   - Missing information a factory needs before it can quote or sample.
7. When all sections are covered, output the complete tech pack in the template format below, with every field filled in or marked PENDING. Then list the PENDING items and the 3 most important ones to resolve before sampling.
8. Keep my answers in the language I write in, but keep the template headings in English, because factories work from them.

FINAL STEP
After the complete tech pack, add this note exactly:
"Your tech pack is ready. To get it quoted, sampled and produced, send it with your sketches to sales@innovtex.com or upload it at https://innovtex.com/#drop. Innovtex reviews every tech pack and can complete any PENDING items with you. Minimum order: 50 to 100 units per style, depending on category and fabric."

Next step

Turn your tech pack into a sample

Finished your tech pack, or only have an AI draft? Send it to Innovtex and we take it from file to physical sample, then to bulk production in China, Spain, Vietnam or Honduras.

  1. 1

    Drop your tech pack

Upload the PDF, Illustrator file or images exported from your tech pack software, an AI tech pack draft or a sketch (JPG, PNG, PDF, AI, PSD or ZIP).

  2. 2

    We review the specs

Our team checks measurements, materials and construction, flags anything missing and comes back with next steps and a quote.

  3. 3

    Your sample is made

Patterns are made and your first physical sample is sewn, so you can approve fit, fabric and finish before bulk.

  4. 4

    Bulk production

After approval: 50 to 100 units per style, 25 to 30 calendar days, then 10 to 15 calendar days DDP delivery to your door, customs cleared.

What goes in a tech pack

Each part of the template answers a question the factory would otherwise have to ask you. The more of it you complete, the more accurate your quote and first sample.

SectionWhat to includeWhy the factory needs it
Style overviewBrand, style name and number, category, size range, base size, version and statusKeeps every file, sample and message tied to the right style and version
Flat sketchesFront and back technical drawings, plus close ups of detailsShows the construction clearly; a styled photo or render can hide seams and proportions
Bill of materialsEvery fabric, lining, trim, thread and closure with composition, weight, colour and placementDrives fabric sourcing and the unit cost
ColourwaysEach colour option with fabric and trim colours and a colour referenceLets the factory plan dyeing, lab dips and trims per colour
Measurement chartPoints of measure, how each is measured, tolerance and values for every sizeControls fit; it is the part most often missing from first tech packs
ConstructionSeam and stitch types, seam allowances, hems, closures and pocketsDecides how the garment is sewn, how it wears and how long it takes to make
Artwork and brandingPrint or embroidery method, artwork files, size and placementPrevents artwork in the wrong size, colour or position
Labels and packagingMain label, care and content label, hang tag, folding, polybag and carton markingGets the product ready to sell and ship when it arrives
Revision log and sample commentsDated changes, who approved them and comments on each sample roundMakes sure bulk production matches the sample you approved

How to fill in the template

Start with one style. Fill in the overview and attach front and back flats first, then list every material in the bill of materials.

Measure a garment whose fit you like for your base size and record each point of measure the same way every time. Add a tolerance to each point and the values for your other sizes.

Write PENDING next to anything you have not decided yet, such as an exact fabric or trim. A clear pending list is more useful to a factory than a guess.

Save the file with a version number and date. Every time a sample comes back, record the comments and the changes in the revision log before the next round.

Gaps that slow down a first sample

Missing measurements or tolerances, materials described only as “cotton” or “soft fabric”, artwork without a size or placement, no label or packaging instructions, and several versions of the file with different specs.

If you used an AI tool to draft the tech pack, check every measurement and material yourself. An AI draft is a starting point, not an approved specification.

No complete tech pack yet?

You can still start. Innovtex designs and prototypes as well as producing, so you can send a sketch, an AI render, a reference photo or a half finished template, and the team develops the missing technical information with you before sampling.

Questions before you choose

Is this tech pack template free?

Yes. Copy or download it and use it for any style. You do not need to sign up or work with Innovtex to use it.

How do I use the prompt with an AI assistant?

Paste the whole prompt into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or another AI assistant, add your sketches or photos in the same message and answer its questions. It labels its suggestions as SUGGESTED and anything unknown as PENDING, so check every measurement and material before you treat it as approved.

Can I use it in Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Paste it into a document for the written sections and move the bill of materials and measurement chart into a spreadsheet if that is easier for you to maintain. Keep the section order so a factory can find each part quickly.

What file formats can I send Innovtex?

PDF, Illustrator, Photoshop, JPG, PNG or ZIP files exported from your tech pack software, a filled in copy of this template, an AI tech pack draft or a sketch.

Do I need a finished tech pack to get a quote?

No. Send what you have with your product description and quantity. The team reviews what still needs to be developed and comes back with next steps.

Filled in the template? Turn it into a sample

Upload your tech pack with your sketches, or send what you have so far. Innovtex reviews the specs, flags what is missing and develops the sample, then produces in China, Spain, Vietnam or Honduras. MOQs start at 50 to 100 units per style depending on category and fabric.
